Two of three lanes will be closed on northbound
I-75 about 2.5 miles north of I-4 (Exit 261) between 10 p.m. Thursday
(April 3) and 6 a.m. Friday (April 4). Crews will be installing a
Dynamic Message Sign over the highway at this location. Also, traffic
on the northbound I-75 corridor from State Road 60 (Exit 257) to 2.5
miles north of I-4 (Exit 261) will be paced for a 30 minute duration

Civic Group Opposes Plan For 130 ft. Tall Sign along i-75 ...

The Concerned Citizens of Gibsonton, a civic
organization, voted last week to oppose plans by the developer of
Gibsonton Square, at Gibsonton Drive and East Bay Road, to seek a
variance to allow at least one tall pole sign that would be visible
above the trees from the nearby interstate. The shopping area has been
approved to contain a hotel, restaurants or offices and retail space.
Developer Bonita Real Estate Partners LLC of Michigan is seeking a
variance from the sign regulations, but before it can do that it needs
permission to modify conditions of its zoning in order to seek the
variance. Bob Minthorn, who coordinates zoning issues for the group,
said the developer appears to be seeking approval for a sign 130 feet
high....

No traffic because vehicles only slow down to get off
the highway. No rubbernecking at accidents because there aren’t any
accidents. A free flowing thoroughfare with commuters using the same
road to go to work and then return home. Sound like a dream? The
Southwest Florida Expressway Authority has the potential to make it
come true, approving a study for a one-lane reversible section of
Interstate 75 just last week. This scenario is already a reality in
Tampa. The Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway connects the suburbs to
the downtown area. The $750 million road takes commuter traffic west
in the morning and then east to Brandon and Interstate 75 in the
afternoon....

A regional transit board wants to learn more about
Manatee County residents' current travel patterns so it can plan the
transportation system of the future. The Tampa Bay Area Regional
Transportation Authority hopes to hear from Manatee residents during
an open house Monday about where they travel throughout a seven-county
region and what routes they take. Authority officials said such
information is vital for their primary mission: Developing a
long-range, regional transportation master plan that could include
toll roads, water taxis and commuter rail....

needed was his Ford F-150 pickup. But with southbound traffic on
Interstate 75 sometimes backed up to State Road 54 during morning rush
hours and gasoline prices setting a record high this week, he can
almost picture himself boarding a bus to Tampa. "Or a train. That
would probably be better," said Smith, 48, of Spring Lake, who owns a

Landowners along State Road 54 could find themselves
facing condemnation lawsuits as soon as this summer as county
officials press ahead with widening the chronically congested road to
six lanes in central Pasco County. County commissioners on Tuesday set
in motion the process for taking landowners to court when necessary to
acquire their land for the road improvements. The county began buying
land in the road corridor in the fall. Since then, it has bought five
of the 106 parcels needed for the project, assistant county attorney
Marcy McDonie told commissioners. The county has budgeted $95 million
to widen S.R. 54 to six lanes between Interstate 75 and Curley Road....

County and state transportation officials will give
drivers their chance to comment on plans to tweak the future path of
State Road 56 east of Meadow Pointe Boulevard. The public meeting to
review the new plans will start at 5 p.m. today at the First Baptist
Church of New Tampa, 28125 County Line Road in Meadow Pointe. These
changes won't affect S.R. 56 west of Meadow Pointe Boulevard, said
Debbie Bolduc, who oversees road projects for Pasco County. Work will
start Wednesday to extend S.R. 56 eastward from its current terminus
at Bruce B. Downs Boulevard....
